Central Otago District Council (CODC) invites growers from Otago and beyond, to attend their Making use of fruit loss: workshop to understand options and support.
In October, the CODC published their report Understanding Fruit Loss in Central Otago. The report quantified the fruit Central Otago growers produce that does not get consumed (fruit loss), calling it a first step towards reducing fruit loss.
Growers are invited to attend a free workshop to discuss:
- Commercial and community options to reduce fruit loss. Bioresource Processing Alliance representatives will present on this.
- The level of interest growers, processors and others have to explore options, either individually or collaboratively.
- Pathways and ingredients to success.
All growers, processors, food innovators and entrepreneurs are welcome to attend. The workshop is being held both in person and online to enable people outside Central Otago to attend.
The Bioresource Processing Alliance (BPA) co-funds and undertakes research and development projects with companies by using expertise from its partner organisations (AgResearch, Scion, Plant & Food Research and Callaghan Innovation) and universities. The BPA is funded by the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment and its goal is to generate more revenue for New Zealand by working with the primary sector to get better value out of biological by-products.
