This is my last message in Prunings to you as Summerfruit NZ’s Chief Executive, with your new chief executive, Dean Smith starting on Monday 30 September.
The past three and a half years have been both challenging and rewarding. I have enjoyed my time at the helm, working with the Summerfruit Board and team, and colleagues in the horticulture sector and central government. Our aim has always been to make a tangible difference for growers, especially those dealing with the aftermath of weather events.
The chief aspect of the summerfruit industry that I will remember the most is growers’ passion for the magnificent fruit that they so carefully nurture, so consumers can enjoy great tasting, healthy fruit. I think it is this passion – combined with growers’ tenacity and skill – that will ensure the summerfruit industry continues its upward trajectory.
All the best, Kate
