The Summerfruit NZ AGM activated the Biosecurity (Readiness and Response – Summerfruit Levy) Order 2019 for the coming season with the rate set at 0.05%. This levy will be collected and calculated in the same manner as the commodity levy.
The new Commodity Levies (Summerfruit) Order 2020 came into force on 18 August 2020. The AGM set the rates for the coming season and they remain as follows:
- For apricots, nectarines, peaches and plums and the hybrids thereof the rate remains 1.5% plus GST.
- For cherries the rate remains 1.0% plus GST.
The new commodity levy order added a third levy rate for summerfruit sold for processing as follows:
- For summerfruit sold for processing (excluding summerfruit sold to Heinz Wattie’s for processing) the initial collection rate has been set 0.5% plus GST.
A letter is being drafted and will be sent to all levy payers shortly regarding the new levies.
