Summerfruit NZ is looking to employ a seasonal labour coordinator. This role, based in Central Otago, is remote from the main team, and will be a self starting role.
Qualifications & experience
- Operational planning and execution ability and experience.
- Flexible and adaptive, able to think outside the box to meet the needs of an evolving industry.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, plus social media. Proven ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of stakeholder audiences.
- An ability to quickly establish trusted networks and to build and sustain constructive and effective relationships, including with Government agencies.
- Ability to promote Central Otago as an attractive place to live and work. Experience in creating attraction packages/campaigns would be advantageous.
- Own vehicle necessary, mileage fully recoverable at IRD rates.
- Knowledge of the horticulture sector or wider primary sector would be an advantage but is not essential.
Tasks & responsibilities
- This role is to support access to seasonal labour for horticultural and viticultural operations in Central Otago. The role will connect employers and potential employees, and support the attraction and retention of seasonal workers to the region.
- Actively monitoring labour demand and supply in the Central Otago horticultural and viticulture industry and providing updates to Summerfruit NZ Wgtn and sector leads/CEOs.
- Provide feedback on employer and employee issues with visas, pastoral care, accommodation, transportation. Collate feedback on employment non-compliance and Social Practice accreditation (GRASP/NZGAP).
- Monitoring Central Otago job listings on the Work the Seasons (WTS) website are current to ensure accurate information is available for potential employees.
- Actively manage the WTS listings by engaging with potential employees when labour demand is low to maintain interest.
- Promoting Central Otago as an attractive region to work and job listings through a single digital portal, and in person presentations to groups, social media, and local media.
- To update and publicise enabling arrangements to employers as available/established.
- Work with the Summerfruit NZ Labour Working Group to develop and implement a system for coordinating seasonal labour requirements in Central Otago.
- To quickly develop and manage a regional attraction package to be available to seasonal workers, that leverages the region's tourist and adventure activities (eg a seasonal worker discount).
- Develop relationships with employers (growers/packers/wineries), employee contacts, other stakeholders, and Government agencies within the region.
