The season is underway
With Christmas just around the corner, I’m pleased that summerfruit season has started positively, with high-quality fruit available and with more people than last year available to pick and pack the fruit. The attraction and retention campaigns that the industry has been running for the past few years have paid dividends, and we are welcoming backpackers back to New Zealand now that our borders have been freed up.
Fruit volumes in some growing areas have been lower than expected due to some pollination difficulties and wet weather during the early season, particularly in Hawkes Bay and Blenheim. Now, all we need is the weather to play ball - here’s hoping for lots of sunshine for the rest of the season.
It’s been a long year for all of us. The Summerfruit NZ team will be taking well-deserved breaks during the summer holiday period. However, we’re still here to help and support you during your harvest season. We will closely monitor our phone calls and emails, so please don’t hesitate to contact me or one of the team if you need any support from us during the holiday period.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a very successful harvest.
