Calosphaeria pulchella, an unwanted organism, was identified through the sequencing of canker lesions found on cherry tree trunks in Otago. It is believed that C. pulchella has likely been present in New Zealand for many years and is potentially widespread throughout the Otago region. Because of this, no response has been initiated and instead we are automatically into long term management of the disease.
Growers are encouraged to read the technote, and join us at the SummerGreen meeting on October 23, where Anna Broxham will be giving a presentation on all things biosecurity, including this incursion and can answer any questions you may have.
A fact sheet on the pathogen can be found in the portal under Research / Technotes.
