Summerfruit NZ continues to work closely with other product groups on identifying a shared solution for data. We are also participating in discussions on a horticulture sector data governance framework and strategy. The team has been engaging with the Agritech group. We’ve been learning from the agriculture sector’s experience with farm data sharing and the wide variety of digital platforms used by farmers.
Since our last update, we have been investigating and evaluating possible software platforms to improve or replace the current Summerfruit NZ secure portal. This includes trialing the capabilities of the current platform to cope with more complex future needs.
The documentation of our business processes and our future data requirements is almost complete. Our next challenge is to provide a paper to the Summerfruit NZ Board in early November, presenting recommendations and a plan to move forward with a system provider.
Once we have a firmer view of the future platform and its capabilities, we will begin working closely with growers and other stakeholders to identify opportunities to gather, store, collate and share industry data.
Issues such as data security, governance, permissions to access and use data sets, systems integration, and most importantly, user experience, will be developed further to ensure all stakeholders needs are understood.
