Summerfruit NZ has signed the Biosecurity Business Pledge as a support organisation under the ‘This Is Us – Biosecurity 2025’ programme. The pledge was launched on Thursday (31 October), in Auckland by the Minister for Biosecurity, Hon Damien O’Connor and MPI officials, and signed on behalf of Summerfruit NZ by Biosecurity and export manager, Juan Rosales.
Under the pledge, Summerfruit NZ joined some of New Zealand’s largest businesses in committing to play its part to protect New Zealand from pests and diseases getting into the country or to stop their spread if they arrive.
'Our pledge is to be an active part of New Zealand’s biosecurity team of all New Zealanders by integrating proactive biosecurity practices into our operations and supply chain. The intention is to promote a culture of proactive biosecurity management within our operations, understand the importance of biosecurity and what good biosecurity practice looks like. We approach biosecurity with a view that is everyone’s responsibility' Juan said.
Other industry organisations present at the launch included KVH, NZ Wine, HortNZ, Tomatoes NZ and a wide range of companies such as Countdown, Mainfreight and Fonterra. The launch included a visit to Mondiale, one of the biggest transitional facilities near the airport.
