A single male Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) was recently detected in a Kiwifruit Vine Health (KVH) funded surveillance trap in Orakei, Auckland.
This detection reinforces the effectiveness of our biosecurity network. While this specific trap was deployed by our GIA partner KVH, it complements the national surveillance system. The find serves as proof that the collaborative industry network is working exactly as intended to identify risks early.
Following the detection on 3 February, Biosecurity New Zealand carried out immediate site inspections, and no further bugs were found. Additional traps have been installed to confirm the area is clear.
This highlights the strength of our partnership and the value of our readiness activities in protecting the industry.
